I spend a great deal of time designing my pieces so they are fully functional, the true beauty does not reveal itself until there is interaction between the piece and the user. My french butter dishes are a good example, they are designed with a wide base so they won't tip over spilling the water, they hold a quarter pound of butter (the way it comes packaged), and the lids are flat so they are stable when in use. My goal is to make the simpliest things like a coffee cup into your favorite, first choice cup, to the point where you will wash it rather than use another. Many customers have come back to me and told me just that, even if they buy a set of four and can see no significant difference between them there is one that fits them just right. To me that is success. A one-to-one connection between the maker and the user that provides comfort, pleasure and function.
